Here at CRYO we don’t believe in following fads and trends. When it comes to health, nutrition, fitness and beauty we ascribe to all natural methods that are proven to work in the long run. We abide by the adage that fad diets come and go but a healthy and sustainable lifestyle is forever. The number of nutrition trends that have been taking us by storm lately are certainly overwhelming but we’re here to sort out the fact from fiction for you. We’ve done our research and we’ve found the top five sustainable nutrition trends of 2015 that are sure to make a lasting impact on your diet and health.

  1. The Acai Bowl

Whether you’re scrolling though Instagram or your Facebook newsfeed, you’re bound to see a picture of a beautifully laid out acai bowl topped with toasted almonds and colorful fruit. The acai berry has taken over the nutrition world because of its impressive health benefits. It has been proven to promote heart health, it wards off cancer, promotes weight loss and improves brain function among many others. It’s no wonder why it’s referred to as the miracle berry. Acai most commonly comes in the form of a paste and can be eaten with a variety of toppings such as fruit, peanut butter, honey, and oatmeal. While we certainly recommend incorporating acai into one’s regular diet, take caution not to load it with added sugar since it already contains a high amount of natural glucose.

  1. Turmeric

Although turmeric has only recently emerged on the nutrition scene, people in South Asia have been adding it to their food for hundreds of years and for good reason. Not only does the bright yellow spice add a huge amount of flavor, it is packed with astounding health benefits. Turmeric contains a molecule called curcumin which blocks the inflammation that leads to almost every disease including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. If these benefits weren’t enough to get you hooked, turmeric is proven to have distinct anti-aging properties. Turmeric tablets are a great way to acquire the benefits it has to offer but it can also be easily incorporated into a wide range of meals.

  1. Bulletproof Coffee

For years saturated fat has been painted as the devil by nutrition experts everywhere. The trend has always been to avoid anything that contains saturated fat like the plague but things are slowly beginning to change. New studies have shown that saturated fat is essential for physical and mental development. This new finding has manifested itself in the form of bulletproof coffee. Bulletproof coffee is coffee that is brewed with low-toxin beans and blended with a tablespoon or two of all natural, grass fed butter. Grass fed butter is slowly becoming a nutrition trend on its own. It contains Vitamin K, a rare vitamin that decalcifies the arteries along with anti-inflammatory acids. The grass-fed butter makes a nutritious substitute to cream or dairy that is normally added to coffee and the low-toxin beans are infinitely healthier than their chemically processed counterpart. Substituting your normal cup of morning coffee with bullet proof coffee is an easy way to start your day on a healthier foot.

  1. Chia Seeds

Like the acai bowl, chia seed pudding is another breakfast food that is making the rounds on the nutrition scene. Chia seeds are tiny black seeds related to the mint family. Despite the fact that chia seeds were a staple in the diet of Mayans they disappeared for almost a thousand years only to be recently discovered again. Chia seeds are known to be one of the healthiest foods on the planet. Even a small does is packed with loads of nutritional benefits and they are incredibly low in calories. They are loaded with antioxidants known to fight off cancer, they contain a huge amount of fiber to aid in digestion, and they provide high quality protein. If these benefits weren’t enough, chia seeds contain even more Omega – 3 fatty acids than salmon. They are also very easy to incorporate into your diet. They can be eaten raw, mixed with cereals and yogurts, or soaked in juice. Chia seeds are certainly worth the hype they’ve generated.

  1. Cauliflower

Cauliflower is traditionally a vegetable that has been looked over in favor of its green alternative, broccoli. However, cauliflower has been catching on lately and it’s certainly the most innovative nutrition trend that has come out of 2015. One of the best aspects of cauliflower is the number of ways it can be used. It has most famously become a substitute for pizza dough, putting a healthy spin on the notoriously indulgent pie. It can also be roasted, baked, fried, added to soups, stews, and salads just to name a few. Its cancer fighting properties, high levels of minerals and vitamins, and anti-inflammatory powers, make it an ideal part of your diet.
